Animal Rights Groups Demand Closure of Miracle of Birth Center at Minnesota State Fair
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota-based Animal Rights Coalition, Unparalleled Suffering, and In Defense of Animals are calling for the permanent shutdown of the Miracle of Birth Center (MOBC) at the Minnesota State Fair, citing concerns over animal cruelty, public health, and misleading educational claims.
Each year, nearly 200 baby animals, including piglets, lambs, and calves, are born in front of large crowds at the fair. Many are induced to give birth on schedule, and mother-newborn separation is common. Animal advocates argue the exhibit reduces birth to a spectacle without regard for the comfort and safety of the mothers and their offspring and exploits these animals for entertainment.
“This isn’t education. It’s cruelty,” said Amy Leinen, the Animal Rights Coalition’s Campaign Manager (ARC). “The MOBC turns a vulnerable moment into a public sideshow. We will be protesting seven out of the twelve days at the fair.”
Activists are urging the public to join the ARC protests, sign the In Defense of Animals petition, and contact the MN State Fair officials to demand the closure of the exhibit. Learn more at MNFairWatch.org.
